The audit process involves a systematic and objective assessment of available data and information. During the audit the auditor will seek to assure and verify environmental performance through a process of document review, interviews with relevant management and staff, and observation of environmental activities on the ground. The report will cover the energy efficiency of the building, taking into account lighting, heating, building fabric and energy usage/ wastage. It aims to highlight cost savings by recommending solutions or practices that could result in dramatic energy savings and therefore costs. 
 
The final report will identify any gaps and opportunities for improvement, including: 
 
Improving existing environmental management practices, 
Assurance of an effective environmental management system, 
Identifying strengths and improvements in operational efficiency, 
Improve energy efficiency and therefore running costs.
